Net Control 2 for Linux is a product designed for 64 bit Linux operating systems for the platform x86-64 (amd64), Debian branch, tested and adapted for Ubuntu desktop operating systems 20.04-22.04 LTS, as also for Astra Linux 2.12 Common Edition ("Orel").

The software is built on the base of Net Control 2 Classroom edition, shares the same network protocol and resources. The teacher module of Net Control 2 for Linux can be used with the student module for Linux, as also with the student modules for Windows or macOS of Net Control 2 Classroom edition. In the same way, the student module of Net Control 2 for Linux can connect the teacher module of Net Control 2 for Linux as also Net Control 2 Classroom for Windows or macOS.

Net Control 2 for Linux cannot be used with Net Control 2 SmallClass or Net Control 2 Professional Editions.

Within all 2023 year, Net Control 2 for Linux licenses are interchangeable with Net Control 2 Classroom licenses: Net Control 2 for Linux can be activated with a key of Net Control 2 Classroom or vice versa, if the total number of licensed teacher and student computers is preserved.

All Net Control 2 for Linux licenses, purchased within this (2023) year, include three years of the free maintenance (upgrades) instead of two years for Net Control 2 Classroom.

Features:

Net Control 2 for Linux shares the most of the features available in the version for Windows.

Nevertheless, due to a difference with the Windows platform, absense of several Windows-specific features and tools, complexity of porting of some features to the Linux platform, the following features are unavailable currently in the teacher module for Linux:

  • Multi-monitor support;
  • Speech and Camera tool and related features;
  • Supportive features of Broadcast Desktop: annotations on the screen, voice communication, area selection, broadcast to a browser;
  • Co-Browse tool;
  • Co-Play tool;
  • Desktop recording and conversion of DRR records to the AVI format (DRR playback is available);
  • NetDeploy tool;
  • Features related to Windows Network Neighborhood and Active Directory;

The complete list of unsupported features you can find in the Release notes document specified above.

Important compatibility notes:

1. Ubuntu: the software is incompatible with Wayland. The software is designed for use only with X11 display server. Wayland does not provide currently a reliable way of capturing desktop in a documented way, therefore some important features like Broadcast Desktop do not work properly in Wayland. Please also note, Wayland is the default display server in Ubuntu since version 21.04, and in order to use the software in Ubuntu, you need to switch the operating system to X11 display server.

To switch Ubuntu to X11 instead of Wayland, please modify /etc/gdm3/custom.conf file and uncomment or change the line #WaylandEnable=false to WaylandEnable=false , save the file and restart the system.

2. Astra Linux: the software is designed for the screen resolution scale 100%. The software can be used with the scale 200%, but it does not support custom or fractional scales like 1.25, 1.5 and so on (125%, 150%). When used in Astra Linux, please adjust the screen resolution scale accordingly.

For additional information regarding the specified modifications please refer the Release notes document
